Dr. Hugh Cort is seeking to serve the people in district 48, which includes parts of Mountain Brook, Cahaba Heights, and Highway 280. He especially wants to reduce the awful congestion and alleviate the suffering of the people who have to navigate the horrors of Highway 280 every day.

Dr. Cort is already working with people at the Birmingham Regional Chamber of Commerce, the Governor’s office, other legislators and Mayor Scotty McCallum to help make the wonderful dream of a pain-free, quick and easy commute home on Highway 280 a reality.

Dr. Cort is a life-long member of the Republican Party and is a member of the President’s Club of the Republican National Committee. He has worked as a psychiatrist at Brookwood Hospital. He has been on a medical missionary trip to Kenya, and works with a mission group which sends medical supplies to a hospital in Nairobi. He is a member of Cahaba Christian Fellowship at the Advocate Center.

After the election, he will begin a new radio show, "Professor and the Doc" (a Hannity and Colmes style of program), on 101.1 FM "The Source" radio station. It will give him a "megaphone" to examine many issues that arise in the legislature to keep the people of Alabama informed.

Dr. Cort is strongly in favor of passing a pro-life amendment and a pro-marriage amendment to the U.S. Constitution.

Dr. Cort is for smaller government and less taxes – in fact, he is exploring a way to build the elevated road for Highway 280 at no taxpayer cost, by using private investors who borrow from their own banks to build a toll road.
